Very innovative, quick question, did you vent the board? Any worries of leaving it in the sun and expansion of air, causing issues of delamination or bubbles? I thought about building a board from cardboard as recycled material. Good job!

Hmm while what you suggest would work for the short term not sure how it would work for the long term. If you don't have a welder you could try brazing it with torch.
It draws enough from the end, drilling the holes made no difference.
Yup black iron fittings only, or soak in vinegar to remove the galivanization.
Honestly I just guessed about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way.

I took that into account, the designs I have seen have the blade too low. My blade is 1/2 up so all it take is one wack, no issues so far. I like your design with the tire, that will keep things tidy!

Yeah I have wondered that myself, I have done some research on this and have not been able to find any consensus. Do you have any idea what to use to stabilize the kaowood.

Thanks, yeah I know trying to keep the length of my videos down but it's hard! Yeah totally could polish the inside, the next one ;)
Interesting to see all the comments on my Instructable. I'm in Canada and I purposely used an American quarter to make the ring because the writing looks cooler and because of this from the Canadian Mint:Is it illegal to melt or deface Canadian coins? "The Currency Act and The Canadian Criminal Code clearly state that no person shall melt down, break up or use otherwise than as currency any coin that is legal tender in Canada."My research on American coins is as long as you don't alter one denomination and pass it off as another it's ok. But the lawyers and Uncle Sam may interperate otherwise.
Thanks, and I'm in the same boat so I totally get what you are saying about a cold garage!

You could make a door from ceramic wood and a metal brackets. Not sure but I think a full 20lbs tank of propane would last around 5-6 hours of constant use. I use the propane forge on a work stand. But best to use it on non flammable area and outside.I don't have answers for your other questions.
Sorry about that, I will note that, also you can still make it all you need is a thumb tack to push and make the holes. :) Just take your time and be careful when you push as you may need to twist back and forth while pushing, don't want to drive the tack into your hand or fingers.
Nope you can totally use an aluminum walled tank, the outside does not get super hot, at least not hot enough to melt aluminum. The metal is only there to hold the refractories in place.
I've never had an issue of the wool collapsing, I try to keep the fit super tight so friction holds it in place since it's kinda like an arche.
Thanks! and yup no idea why they use the term forge.
Also I use mine with a GFI plug.
Thanks, fixed now.
With the ITC-100 it should easily reach forge welding temp. You may have to crank up the PSI depending how well your burner works.
Depends on the size of the crucible :) But you could always make a larger one from a metal bucket. There are a few Instructables on making one, I made one based on the design of "The King of Random" but I plan on remaking one with the left over Kaowool I have. His works good, but it takes too long to heat up as the refractory is mostly plaster of Paris whereas ceramic wool and ITC-100 is superior but of course costs more.

Thanks! I got the belt sander from a place called Lee Valley in Canada.
Any idea where to get Ti nuts? I have a sheet of Ti that I may try to make into a ring but it is kinda flat.
It was 5/8 -11 nut. I just tried different ones that seem to fit my finger.
Oddly I find because it is polished to a mirror finish it doesn't rust. I think the oils from your skin also help.
Thanks, yeah stainless is the way to go but it is much harder to work with but should be do able. I find it stays shiny for a while, maybe a few weeks.
