5 Ways to Help Stop Global Warming

Global Warming is a increasingly urgent and serious problem. We can all be a part of the movement to help fix this problem! While these tips might have a minuscule overall impact, every bit counts. Use these simple solutions that you can easily do to help fight against Global Warming. All credit to the picture above goes to Ben M. Baglio.

Step 1: Replace a Regular Incandescent Light Bulb With a Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb (cfl)

Light bulbs are something you replace occasionally. Next time you go light bulb shopping just buy a different bulb (cfl). It's that simple. Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs use 60% less energy than the average bulb. This simple bulb will save about 300 pounds of Carbon Dioxide a year.

Step 2: Move Your Fridge and Freezer

Placing your fridge and freezer near a cooker or boiler consumes much more energy than if they were standing on their own. For example if you put them in a hot cellar where the room temperature is 30-35 degrees Celsius, energy use will double, and cause an extra 160kg of CO2 emissions for fridges per year and 320kg for freezers!

Step 3: Clean or Replace Filters on Your Furnace and Air Conditioner

Cleaning a dirty air filter can save 350 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Step 4: Choose Energy Efficient Appliances When Making New Purchases

Look for the Energy Star label on new appliances to choose the most efficient models available.

Step 5: Do Not Leave Appliances on Standby

Use the "on/off" function on the machine itself. A TV set that switched on for three hours a day(the average time Europeans spend watching TV) and in stand by mode during the remaining 21 hours uses about 40% of its energy in standby mode.

Carbon dioxide is formed when fuels burn (vehicles, heating, generating electricity, wild-fires etc), or when living things respire (you breath out 100 times ore CO2 than you breathe in).

Don't mow your lawn. Leave it natural.

According to the EPA (of the US), 5% of pollution from mobile sources (that includes planes, trains, trucks & cars) comes from mowing lawns. It also reduces the CO2 to O2 converting green leaves. There is also plenty of spillage. Habitat for animals is destroyed. And accidents are very common.

I've been promoting this concept for years, but people are brainwashed into having a flat polluting and costly rug outside. Some lawns are mowed where nobody will even see them. It's insane.

You forgot the most important tip: Stop having children! All of our negative impacts on this planet stem from our species' amazing success. Unchecked, like any viral infection, we will eventually kill ourselves or the host.

Most energy is used in heating homes, water, moving people, producing and transporting goods, food. I laud your suggestions, but the savings pertaining to global warming with these actions are miniscule. No cost effective green alternative energy is working. The green movement screams about it but oppose any alternatives such as solar farms, wind farms, ocean tide energy proposals. Wind kills birds, ocean tide kills fish, solar farms kill desert animals, nuclear power plants are dangerous to humans and hydro electric disrupts the river environment. There is no pleasing them. So I for one will continue to enjoy a warm house, hot water, my vehicles, and entertainment devices powered by fossil fuels. I will as my incandescent bulbs burn out replace them with led bulbs. They can keep the toxic mercury laden cfl bulbs. As my appliances die I will replace them with the cheapest energy efficient models (which may or may not be the most efficient.) But I am not going to remodel my kitchen to move a refrigerator or freezer. Most of the world barely lives from one pay check to another and are not willing to expend funds they do not have trying to please a bunch of eco-nuts who have no common sense. I am not convinced that global warming is a bad thing. People, animals and plants will do as they have since life began, adapt or die. Global warming has not materialized as claimed and as a result the political hacks have stopped saying; "global warming," and are now saying; "global climate change."
