In this project I will demonstrate how a RF FM transmitter works and how this principle compares to the older AM. I will also show you how to build a simple and crude FM receiver which can even sometimes let you listen to your favorite radio stations. Let's get started!

where do you bought the inductor and what is the inductor value .anyone please give me answer

use a gauge sixteen wire and coil it around a 4mm rod, screew or anything :)

The LM386 not going to work if you are far from the radio tower - maybe in the country like europe and the USA it will be working perfectly but in country like Africa, Asia and Eastern europe where radio technology are not so advance this circuit simply fail.

I made it but it doesn't pick up any radio stations. It once picked up but it was high pitch and too soft to hear, Oh by the way, i guess the problem was with the antenna

BF199 and all other "BF"(NPN Si) transistors are not available in my country.what i can use that?any substitude?
or can i use BC337,BC549 or BD135 transistor?

if u can tell me that it would be awesome and this is awesome project indeed.:)

I think they have to be "BF" labelled transistors, these are designed to work at radio frequencies. However if you can't find BF transistors in your country it may be because they are labelled differently.

an NTE133 should do the job, but many other NTE labelled transistors will not work since it's just a company name so you'll have to look around at datasheets

This circuit diagram makes little-to-no sense and the out of focus pictures don't help. The parts list is inaccurate and does not clearly list the supplies needed. For example you have not listed the voltage or type (IE: Ceramic Capacitor vs regular capacitor.) I know this is an old project, but if you could would you possible upload an updated PCB board diagram and 'adjust' the parts list.

Hi Scott,

Its been hard to find the parts. Are there alternatives to LM386 and BF199?

Also, could you please post the whole info on the required parts, for instance when looking for a capacitor there are multiple specs, like voltage and other stuff that I don't understand. As this is my first radio project and I want to dig deeper in the electronics world, this would help a lot.
