Compact Underground Secret Compartment

It's easy to hide things underground, but it's also really, really easy to lose them. Unless you have a marker of some kind you might find yourself digging up your entire garden to get at whatever it was you hid. This project is based on something I saw online quite a while back (I can't remember where I found it).

Step 1: What You Need:

- Strong, waterproof glue

- An empty pill bottle or watertight container

- A rock, twig, or pine cone to act as a marker

- Brown spray paint, as close to the colour of dirt as you can find. I didn't want to buy a new can of spray paint so I used the only brown I had.

Step 2: Chosing a Marker

I'll list the pros and cons of each "marker" I considered:

Pine cone

Pros: commonly found in gardens

Cons: an animal might try to take it, hard to glue, could decompose over time

Twig

Pros: unsuspicious (who'd get paranoid over a twig?), blends in well with dirt, fairly easy to glue

Cons: could decompose over time

Rock

Pros: easy to find, smooth surface for easy gluing, durable, fairly common in gardens

Cons: might be removed from a garden (along with the secret compartment)

Step 3: Making the Secret Compartment

- Spray paint the pill bottle brown.

- Once it is dry, remove some paint from a section of the lid and glue your marker to the paint-free surface.

- Wait for the glue to fully dry and dig a hole for the compartment. Bury as much of it as you can without losing sight of the marker completely. Try to bury it in a hard to see place, such as near the base of a large overhanging plant.

That'd work great, you'd just have to make sure that no one moved the statue.
