Simple Audio Amplifier Using Single Transistor

About: HI! I am Junez Riyaz, currently doing Bachelor of Technology in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. I am much interested in inventing something new yet from my childhood. In my leisure ti...

Audio Amplifier is a device which strengthen the weak signal. Usually in audio systems we use amplifiers to drive the speakers of high power rating .

Now , in this Instructables you are going to see how to make an audio amplifier using single transistor to drive the speaker of 10W .

For more information checkout my website Electronics Projects Hub

Step 1: Components Required

Transistor – 2N6292 x1 [ Aliexpress ]

Resistor – 2.2k x1 [ Banggood ]

Capacitor – 22uF x1 [ Banggood ]

3.5mm Jack x1 [ Banggood ]

Speaker x1 [ Banggood ]

Breadboard x1 [ Banggood ]

Step 2: Circuiting

Pin Configuration of 2N6292

PIN1 - Base | PIN2 - Collector | PIN3 - Emitter

Circuting :

  1. First place transistor on breadboard .
  2. Insert resistor at pin 1 and 2 of transistor .
  3. Insert positive terminal of capacitor at pin1 of transistor .
  4. Insert one wire of 3.5 mm jack at negative terminal of capacitor.
  5. Insert remain wire of 3.5 mm jack at pin3.
  6. Insert one wire of speaker at pin2 .
  7. Connect remain wire of speaker to +5v supply .
  8. Connect ground of power supply to pin3 .

Plug the 3.5 mm jack to any audio playing device and enjoy the sound.

If have any doubts you can check the breadboard traces.

Download the circuit attached .

Hey, what happens if I use a speaker with a lower wattage (0.5 W)?

I made it working Perfect.. But Transistor heat up even when not connected to playback device,, and continues take load of 1.5Amp from supply, because gate is open with 2k resistor, tell me solution plz.. Thanks

Hi, nice circuit, it is simple indeed, but the constant current always flows through the speaker and it is not good, it may kill the speaker, better to add a capacitor like in this video:

Hello I am trying this circuit, If any objections pls let me know

Question 10 months ago on Introduction

What is actually happening in the circuit? What's the role of each component in the circuit?Explanation please !

The 5 volt power supply is shown, in the form of a battery, on the far right of the diagram. It's labeled as V1. The positive terminal (+) connects to the speaker. While the drawing is adequate for those familiar with schematic diagrams, this circuit is aimed at a broad audience, where good labeling would be helpful. Note:Though this circuit is wonderfully easy to build, it will drain noticeably more power than modern IC type amplifier designs. Great for learning and demonstrations, but not long term, every day use.

Indeed, missing some important information. As Keifd also pointed out; the power supply is important and should be pointed out, or at least been shown in the schematic. Cool thought, transistor amplification is kinda a missed topic these days, due to the (also awesome) op-amp IC's. But some basic, and very interesting, information regarding how transistors work would be a nice addition.

You failed to show the power supply.
From the example you made it looks like it is powered by only the phone jack, which is wrong. Plus in your parts list it doesnt show anthing about power suppy. Missing important info!

I've been playing around with transistors for a while.
This one is fun!
