Winter in the northern part of the United States can play havoc on energy bills. There are many steps you can take to reduce costs. This instructable will give you a simple way to use mother nature to reduce some energy costs.

Supplies:

Step 1: Simple Overview

The simple idea is to freeze empty water bottlesports and place them in your refrigerator.

Step 2: Gather Supplies

Empty bottles.
You can use 2 liter bottles or individual water bottles.
Freezing temperature

Step 3: Freezing Weather

Fill your water bottles most of the way with water.
Place outside and let sit until completely frozen.

Step 4: Place in Fridge

Put the bottles in the warmest part of the fridge. This varies from fridge to fridge.
In my fridge the top is coldest, so I place my bottles at the bottom.
The idea behind placing the bottles in the fridge, is that the frozen bottles will reduce the temperature of the fridge without making the fridge work to reduce temperature.
This is a simple but effective plan, it won't save you thousands of dollars , but it can't hurt.

Clever life hack. You could just take gallon jugs and keep them in the garage and swap them out every other day.

we do, but we often have 3 gallons of milk at a time. The smaller bottles fit in smaller spaces.
