This project was so enjoyable to make. I made this as a gift for a Pilot and his wife whom are expecting a little boy named Austin and there last name begins with M so i tried my best to incorporate it into the build.
Step 1: Tools and Material
scrap pieces for circle and propeller
Step 2: Cut Material
i used a Stencil of an A and sized it to fit the 1x8x6. i used a circular saw to cut the As off t
Step 3: Bandsaw
take them to the bandsaw and cut out the outside outline.
Step 4: Jig Saw
next drilled some holes in the middle using the jig saw i cut out all the middle part.
Step 5: Cut the Wings
i then use the remain 1x8 and cut it in half equally
Step 6: Circle Jig
I used the circle jig on the band saw to cut the propeller base then using a scrap of pallet wood i cut the propeller in a shape i thought looked good
Step 7: Supports
I them measured the As I cut out and then cut supports out of scrap oak I had laying around 4 in total i then sanded and routed out everything using a fancy router bit I think it was roman o something or other. this is where you can make it your own
Step 8: Stain It
i used 2 types on this build i used dark ebony and then sanded it down to give it a aged look. and then used gray stain for the accent pieces.
Step 9: Using a Key Hole
i used this for the mounting I mesured them out a 16 inches apart so that it would hit on studs since this is a lot of weight in a kids room
Step 10: Pit It All Together
using glue and screws and brad nails I put it all together!! hope you enjoyed the build
