Make Your Own Solar Powered Led String Lights. ($5 Bucks Max)
Wow, a simple and amazing project. Great job!
You can get that module WAY cheaper than that. They start at $5 at this little store call Amazon.com. :P
You may be using the wrong kind of solder or soldering iron. The only hint I can give you here is wait until your iron is at the right temp before you place it on the battery so it can be done quickly. If all else fails, buy a case for it that has wires. They cost about $2 bucks on eBay.
Seriously. They start at like $1. I've seen them at the dollar store for $1.25 I assume they only have 500mA charge at most.
You get get a solar christmas light set that uses lithium batteries. I buy mine after Christmas when they are 50% to 75% off. You just have to open them up and the components. Make sure they are using Lithium Batteries, not nicads or nimh. If you add the usb, it can charge via USB or solar. :)
When using zip ties on live plants remember to never leave them on something that will keep growing. Hopefully they would decay and break over time but if they don't they can become a tourniquet. So dead branches or annuals are no issue.
some phones shutdown the wifi if they are not active. evil.
I have to agree.
That's not what he said. How would there be fire hazard? In parallel, it's just a drain on the working battery. It's balancing. If the other one is dead, again no hazard.
These are great and my little girl and I will have fun making them. One question.Just the citric acid is about $1.35 per bb and Amazon sells 4.5oz bb for $1.99. Am I buying the wrong stuff?

Looks lovely. I do think that shelf / outcrop will be a magnet for your shin though.FYI, Looking at this in Chrome had a bunch of pictures missing. Not, not found, just like they didn't exist. I think it's the website "Show all items" feature. Work fine with Firefox though.
Awesome. One tip. Hobby shops sell little mirrors. Single and double sided. Might be easier than cutting HD platters.
Don't take this the wrong way. This is not for the poster of this great article. For those who would like an off the shelf solution. Get a cheap prepaid or something cell phone with GPS. Install Find Device Manager and you can track it via the web. Add a solar charger and you are set for a while.
The point isn't to replace the light source, led. The point would be to replace the plexi. Since the hard part would already be done with the electronics. You could place the EL tape on an entire wall.
Great job. A variation on your project, since you've done all the electronics, is you could use EL wire or EL tape instead of the plexi for the digit segments.

Sweet. Simple and beautiful. Nice job. I'm so making a couple. Suggestion. Lithium battery. Put a charging jack. When it drains, you can just plug it in. Even hook it up to a solar panel/charger. Never worry about changing batteries.

fantastic and beautiful.
That's not really DIY is it? Not that I don't own one myself, but the site isn't about buying stuff yourself, usually. :)
Cool and simple. I wonder if qaurter round with rubber bands might not work better though.

Geez. I've seen instructables about writing your name in crayons with nicer, more supportive comments.-- Anyway. Thanks for the post. I hadn't thought of this since I didn't know they existed. I'm off to ebay.
I don't know how practical it is, but it's adorable.
