The Chinese do this by floating the circuit board on a pool of hot solder. It's amazingly efficient if you don't mind the occasional heavy-metal poisoning. Thanks for this Instructable. This, combined with my interest in circuit board design may result in a new hobby.
View Instructable »I was citing a news story from Time magazine: Thursday, Jan. 08, 2009 "E-Waste Not" about Guiyu, China, a recycling hub where peasants heat circuit boards over coal fires to recover lead, while others use acid to burn off bits of gold. According to reports from nearby Shantou University, Guiyu has the highest level of cancer-causing dioxins in the world and elevated rates of miscarriages. Not from the solder, although when you involve acid and lead all bets are off.

Sunburn is caused by the body killing skin cells that have been damaged by solar radiation. It is an immune defense against skin cancer so you don't want to *stop* the process. If this soothes the process, excellent! I've always used vinegar, but this seems less smelly.

I agree with your assessment; Designing your own circuits is far more valuable than not understanding the technology and just buying it. It's even a little disheartening that such marvels of engineering are of such little value.I do IT for electrical engineers. While I know how to network and manage computers, they know how to design and build them.

Sounds like too much flux. I use liquid flux instead of the paste. put it on the metal when it is cool and heat the metal rather than the solder. As the flux evaporates, it keeps the oxygen off the metal. If it doesn't stick, let it cool and buff it with an emery cloth. Metal oxides are our enemy.

Noooooo no no no no no! You are suggesting home surgery. If you go to the doctor, you are guaranteed access to antibiotics and pain medication. Plus you have an expert who is trained and knows what they are doing, plus the laser settings are set to the right tolerances right between the therapeutic and permanent skin damage. Plus the wavelength of the light has to be exactly right. It has to burn the pigment and not the skin. The burning from tattoo removal is from the pigment being blasted, not the skin.

We had a nest break through our ceiling and they were swarming in the house. I did this with a bowl of detergent water, a lamp and some maple syrup. It kept them off us until the exterminator came.
View Instructable »The wine attracts them. The detergent breaks the surface tension so they quickly drown. You don't even need the alcohol, except that it may act as a preservative.

I turn older computers into supercomputers. All the motherboard needs is a few PCI-E connections and I can hook up several graphics cards to do GPU computing. (CUDA and OpenCL.) In graphics and video-content production, a cheap motherboard with two higher end graphics cards can outperform 6 $4,000 render farm servers.
