Ink jet printers suspend colored ink in water, heat it up to steam and spray it on to paper where it soaks in and makes a nice picture. Lasers use something called toner. It is a very very very fine pigmented dust coated in plastic polymer. The printer creates a magnetic surface on the paper that the toner sticks to, then rolls it through a heated drum which melts the polymer to the paper.It's the melting of the polymer that transfers to the copper when you iron it. Trying to do this with an ink jet will just make a mess. The printing methods are completely different.
I like this instructable. I think your next one should be how to beef up your charging base so it charges faster. I haven't looked at how the current ones are done but I've had good luck with using PWM to drive a push-pull which in turn controls the duty cycle on a high power MOSFET. I've gotten 5 watts on the remote side. Obviously I'm using larger windings but with something like a copper clad ribbon cable it might work.
I would like to know how they did the cool solder mask color designs.
Just FYI, this is mostly for appearances. If your assembly Is going in something critical like medical patient qualified devices, nuclear power plants or SpaceX Rockets, your friendly IPC quality inspector is going to have a conniption fit. ;)It is in fact beautiful though.
True. There should be lead protrusion as well as a concave fillet. Although if there was evidence of the lead in the hole on on the destination side but no lead protrusion on the source side that would make this Acceptable for Class 1 and a Process Indicator for Class 2 and 3. So it isn't a IPC defect, but you're going to spend a lot of time arguing that with your quality inspectors.
Circuit Board Design Class
A little flux goes a long way. Even an inline parallel splice (much cleaner, less bulky and ugly) with proper solder flow, can be effectively as strong as this one. Note: if you're putting enough tension on the wire to separate your solder joint before the wire gives way, you likely didn't have very good solder flow. However, perhaps the point to make here is your wire/solder should never bear a load great enough to separate either.
