Thank you Johnvk for sharing your age and ambition. I get very frustrated with people who think they are too old to learn anything and have no curiosity. These are usually people who think they learned everything they possibly could by the time they got out of high school. They seem to be convinced it is not possible to attempt new things.I have been on a crusade to help people become more curious and encourage them to acquire new knowledge and to attempt new skills. You, sir, are an encouragement to me.

I had planned to do one of these in the spring this year. Now it is the end of summer. Does it really matter what time of year you start? It seems like if there stuff is still growing then it should be fine, but I was concerned that if I start at the end of the growing cycle then it may be too late for this year. What do you think?

Oooh, that sounds great. You want to design it for us? Would be fun to print and fly alongside this one.

Well, that didn't last long. Maiden flight broke it up pretty badly. Ha!Good thing I have a 4'X8' sheet of foam board.

I had been working on a more complicated design for an RC plane I want to build. But your design is so simple and will probably work great for my plane. I made mine with polystyrene foam board insulation strips. Works great! Next will be to put the tiny motors on it. If they are too big for this plane, I now understand the concept for building a bigger one that is appropriate for my motors. Thanks for posting!
- dpeach commented on dpeach's instructable How to Add Bluetooth to a Vintage Radio7 months ago
Actually nothing in the radio changes. You are building a transmitter to send the signal to an AM radio station.
View Instructable »This simply sends out an AM signal. As long as your car radio can receive AM, doing this project is fairly simple. There is no modification to the radio at all.

A great solution to a real problem. Fortunately our kids both learned quickly how to read an analog clock. They didn't know what the numbers meant, but they understood the picture that 6:00 made with the big and little hands. However, I think this is something I will have to keep in mind when wanting to do a simple light system in the future.

- dpeach commented on Sandra van de Looij - Kleinendorst's instructable I Made My Own Wedding Dress!1 year ago
I will see if she will let me post a picture of her and the dress. You do know that when we got married pictures were taken on thin plastic and printed on special paper? We didn't have digital cameras back then. I would have to find and scan a picture from the big day.
We weren't makers back then like we are now. I would have been much more involved in the building stuff for the wedding if we were getting married today. Maybe for our 50th anniversary we will make Arduino controlled laser lights.
View Instructable »This is fantastic! I loved seeing the process and reading about the reason you made the choices you did. My wife can attest that I'm pretty terrible at sewing (she is amazing at it), but I love to see how things are made. You documented your process very well.My mother-in-law and wife made the dress that my bride wore on our wedding day. (They did let me help do a few small items so I could say I had a hand in it). After 24 years of marriage I fondly look back at those months leading up to the wedding and remembering the excitement we shared getting ready for the big day.I wish you well in your continued sewing adventures (please share them with us), and in your marriage.
- dpeach commented on mikeasaurus's instructable QR Coasters1 year agoView Instructable »
The PLA would be fine with the condensation. It will not absorb any moisture. The wood on the other hand might. Colors probably won't fade in the usability lifetime of the coasters unless stored outside in direct sunlight. The only real problem is that because these are hard plastic then they will be slippery when wet. Because it is a raised QR code the water will pool underneath and may not be so bad.

A bit of hot glue in any place that you think might be exposed to shorting with the shot is a good way to insulate things.

As always, a great project from you. I love your videos and projects. I rarely do your projects exactly, but you give such great ideas of what can be done. I find myself going back to them again and again when something comes up that I want to try.
- dpeach commented on Creativity Buzz's instructable Homework Writing Machine1 year agoView Instructable »
I have always been told no, but that doesn't mean you can't try it. The reason the Pi/Linux is not the best choice is that they don't work in "real time." The Pi and the operating system can do many things at once. Therefore, it doesn't complete instructions sequentially without interruption from other operations. This causes problems for precision on your X and Y axis motors. In theory you can make it work, but it probably won't be accurate. Don't let that stop you from trying.

- dpeach commented on Rama Rekto's instructable DIY Self-Balancing One Wheel Vehicle1 year ago
I would think of it like a bicycle. No, it is not safe until you learn to ride it. But once you do it can be as safe or as dangerous as the rider makes it.
View Instructable »Amazing project. Congratulations on having such a nice looking project in the end.People are asking about the cost. I think this is one of those projects you do not because it costs less than buying one, but because it is a way to learn how each one of these systems work and gives you the skills to build bigger, better and newer projects. This looks like it was done by a group of university students. As a class project this is great.

I recently fixed an Arduino Mega because of a blown voltage regulator (a few months ago). Thanks for putting up such a clear Instructable and video for others who may find themselves in the same situation. I hate seeing good stuff thrown away because people don't take the time to figure out what might be wrong.Great job.

This was great. Thanks for writing it. I had my first attempt at DuPont cable crimping a couple of months ago. Eventually I got it to work well and I actually enjoy creating wires of just the right length. This guide would have helped back then. I am sure it will be a help to others in the future.

Even if you splice the wires, this would be an upgrade that doesn't cost much but adds value to the car when you sell it.
View Instructable »Thanks for the info on the wire harness adapter. I never even thought that something like that would be available. Certainly easier than fabricating something from paper clips. For the strip lights on eBay I would look for something like this: 12V led strip white. For less than $10 (US) you can get 5 meters worth of lights.

After cutting out my circles I pasted the template from the top of the printed sheet to some cardstock. Then I cut out the triangle part and used that to help me fold each one of the circles. This was a fun project and one of those that teaches a skill that can be used with other papercraft. Thanks for teaching us how.
